A winemaker redefining great Ribera del Duero
Jorge Monzón is not someone who takes the well-trodden path. His wines from Ribera del Duero are worlds apart from many of the examples from the region - rather than looking for power, richness and ripeness, instead he is far more interested in elegance, restraint and real expression of terroir. His vinous upbringing might be considered a little more classical - with stints at Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and Vega Sicilia - but it was while working in Ribera that Jorge worked with some of the oldest vineyards in the region and saw a way to capture their magic.
In 2010 Jorge and his partner Isabel Rodero founded Dominio del Águila, having purchased these ancient and distinctive vineyards, planted with mostly Tempranillo but other more obscure varieties, all managed organically and biodynamically. The pinnacle of their range is the tiny-production Canta la Perdiz, made from ungrafted vines and emblazoned each year with a label whose colour reflects the vintage - blue for cool, red for warm, and pink for moderate.
At the end of February Jorge and Isabel will be visiting London and we couldn’t miss the opportunity to host a dinner with them to showcase their extraordinary wines. For the dinner we will be taking over the Private Dining Room at Arros QD - who are known for some of the finest Spanish fare in London, particularly their irresistible paella.

If you fail to do so, we’ll do our very best to credit your ticket towards the purchase of future wines, although regrettably, we cannot process credits with less than 48 hours’ notice prior to the start of the event.
