Dinner with Chryseia, Thursday 6th July 2023 at Clarette, Marylebone

A dinner with a remarkable Portuguese producer redefining the Douro

In 1999, two of the most famous names in traditional European winemaking joined forces to establish a new producer in the Douro Valley - the Symington family, renowned worldwide for their top portfolio of Port Houses; and the Prats family, Bordeaux winemaking royalty known for involvement in Chȃteaux Cos d’Estournel, Lafite-Rothschild and Léoville-Las Cases. The resulting project, named Prats & Symington, released their first vintage in 2000, to critical acclaim.

On 6th July we will be joined by father-and-son duo Bruno and Jean-Guillaume Prats, for a very special dinner to shine a light on one of the most overperforming yet lesser-known styles of wine made in Europe. Bruno was responsible for creating the estate - aiming to apply Bordeaux winemaking to Douro grapes, resulting in a superior style of dry red in a region known overwhelmingly for its fortified wines.

We will enjoy four vintages of the estate’s top wine, Chryseia, including the legendary 2011 vintage, which was the first Douro wine to ever reach the third position in Wine Spectator’s annual list of Top 100 Wines. In addition we will taste the ‘second wine’ of Post Scriptum, with both white and vintage port starting and finishing proceedings respectively.

With their winemaking expertise and history globally, especially in Bordeaux, the opportunity to meet both Bruno and Jean-Guillaume Prats is a chance to dine with some of the most revered and renowned names in wine. The ability to do so whilst exploring a project that is so close to their hearts, with wines representing the best in their region, is not one to be missed.
