An exclusive dinner with the owner of Australia’s greatest Semillon producer
No one can talk about the history of Australian winemaking, or about the grape Semillon, without mentioning Tyrrell’s. We have been working with this family-owned estate for years, and many will be familiar with their benchmark white - the Vat 1 Semillon, a wine that has come to define an entire region of white winemaking in the Hunter Valley on the east coast of Australia.
Founded in 1858, just four years after Lay & Wheeler, Tyrrell’s has been a family affair since day one. Many of the vines on the estate are almost as old - one parcel behind the winery dates back to 1908. And we are delighted that for this evening we will be joined by the fourth generation member of the family and Managing Director Bruce Tyrrell, to share with us the history of the estate with his trademark wit and dry humour.
The most famous wine of the estate is the Semillon, but Bruce will be bringing some top Chardonnay and Shiraz too, to showcase the unique terroir of the Hunter Valley for these varieties.
This is a great opportunity to taste the wine style that created an entire category of Australian wine, hearing directly from the family who planted the vines. To match the convivial nature of the evening, we will be returning to the intimate private dining room of Quality Chop House - where we have now hosted many legendary winemakers for vibrant discussion over the superb fare provided by Head Chef Shaun Searley. Places as ever are limited, so secure your tickets now.
