2013 Savage White, Western Cape

2013 Savage White, Western Cape

The key features of Duncan Savage’s philosophy are a focus on terroir, minimal intervention and the very restrained use of old oak – Old World personified. Previously winemaker at the celebrated Cape Point, after a period working with the Loire Valley’s Didier Dagueneau, South African Duncan Savage set out alone. This is a fascinating wine, a Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon blend, showing the minerality and complexity of the Loire alongside the sensitive use of toasty oak of white Bordeaux. Outstanding.
