2014 Sancerre Les Monts Damnés, Pierre Martin

2014 Sancerre Les Monts Damnés, Pierre Martin

One of Sancerre’s iconic vineyards and the flagship vineyard of the town of Chavignol, Les Monts Damnés sits on the Kimmeridgean marl soils for which the region is famous. A big step up from the 2013 thanks to the superlative vintage: a lacy, creamy palate softens the intense mineral texture, whilst beautiful floral and fragrant fruit mean this shouldn’t be missed.

Pierre Martin

Based in the village of Chavignol, a few kilometres up the road from Sancerre itself, Pierre Martin is a talented young winemaker who is making his mark. He shares these steep slopes, including those of his vineyards Culs de Beaujeu and Les Monts Damnés, with celebrated producer François Cotat, and his wines are now reaching this very top level themselves. With only small volumes produced of incredibly impressive wines, Pierre Martin is rightfully fast garnering an excellent reputation.
