2012 Morgon, Côte du Py, Château des Jacques, Domaine Louis Jadot

2012 Morgon, Côte du Py, Château des Jacques, Domaine Louis Jadot

Louis Jadot is a stalwart of the Burgundy community and nowhere is its influence more appreciated than in the clay-laced hills of pretty Beaujolais. Jacques Lardière, Jadot’s technical director, had until his recent retirement consistently outperformed the swathe of producers making wine to a lighter recipe in the region. In fact, it is fair to say that cru Morgon has more in common with the rich, earthy Pinot Noir from the Côte d’Or than it does with fruit-driven Beaujolais. The Côte du Py is considered the best site of the cru.
Beaujolais’ answer to the Grand Cru from their northerly neighbours, this is not to be overlooked. An inviting, fragrant and complex nose of wild cherries and damsons with almond, spice and game. Silky, yet textural with beautiful balance and an underlying richness that challenges the crown of Pinot Noir. Seriously good cru Beaujolais.

Tasting notes

The 2012 Morgon Cote du Py, which comes from blue volcanic soils and sees 10 months in 50% new wood, has a gorgeous, voluptuous bouquet with pure black cherries and cassis fruit that is very well-defined and in synch with the wood. The palate is medium-bodied with very smooth tannins. This is a suave Morgon Cote du Py that gently caresses the palate and leaves a touch of spice on the finish. Delicious! Drink now-2025.
