2011 Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Epeneaux, Comte Armand

2011 Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Epeneaux, Comte Armand

Tasting Clos des Epeneaux in October/November is always fascinating, as Benjamin has not yet finalised the blend. This means that the two main components (one from fruit grown straight on the bedrock and one from vines planted on the fragmented rock portion of the vineyard) can be tasted separately first, then blended. The former brings a fantastic minerality, length and a powerful finish with plenty of structure. The latter has a much more aromatic style and fleshier, richer fruit on the mid-palate. They complement each other incredibly well and the Clos des Epeneaux final blend should show great mouth filling weight, with impressive but elegant structure and a fabulously long, mineral finish.
