2018 Château Marquis de Terme, Cru Classé Margaux

2018 Château Marquis de Terme, Cru Classé Margaux

There’s a little too much greeness here, with nice purity of fruit, but also slightly astringent tannins. Should come together better in barrel, but at the moment a bit odd.

Tasting notes

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Marquis de Terme gives up bold blackberry compote, blueberry pie and crème de cassis scents with nuances of menthol, tobacco and cedar chest. The full-bodied palate is quite serious and stern, with firm, ripe tannins and seamless freshness to support the pure, pronounced black fruits, finishing with a minty lift.

Tight, well placed cassis and damson notes give a fresh expression, accompanied by good spice unfurling attractively in the glass. The tannins here feel a little tight and closed in as the wine progresses through the palate. It clearly has ambition and will age, but it's more about the construction than the fruit, which gives it a less exuberant feel than many in the vintage.

This is very pretty with a dense center palate of dark fruit, toasted oak and spice. Some hazelnut, too. Full body. Flavorful finish.

The 2018 Marquis de Terme is pliant, racy and inviting. Silky tannins and plush, forward fruit add to the wine's undeniable appeal and sense of immediacy. Although not especially complex, this racy, fruity Margaux has a ton to offer. Best of all, it will drink well with minimal cellaring. Tasted two times.
