Pierre Lurton commented that the Merlot was a notable success in this vintage, but even so it is Cabernet Franc that has done so much to sculpt the nature of the wine; “elegant, complex with great ageing potential”. Deep and dark in hue, crimson to the rim, the nose is expressive offering aromas of creamy dark-skinned fruits, and hints of chocolate too. A scented, fragrant touch too. The palate reveals a true wealth of fruit and a terrific sense of density, without seeming heavy. There is a finely woven feel to the palate with beautiful, fresh, pure black and red berry fruits and a creamy, chocolatey character. It is both rich and full, and the tannins seem fine and well-masked. Such a fine nature here, near perfect poise. Sophisticated and elegant, a fine Cheval-Blanc.
