A blend of 35% Semillon blanc from a 39 year old vineyard in Franschhoek, 28% Roussanne from Stellenbosch and the Paardeberg, 14% Paardeberg Chenin Blanc that’s 43 years old, 13% Chardonnay from the Ceres Plateau, and 10% Clairette Blanche from a 44 year old vineyard in Worcester. This is herbal, grippy, and delicious. Notes of anis and ginger spice, and then a long, savoury, mineral finish. Just brilliant.
Rocking Horse affords John Seccombe the chance to show his skills as a blender. Based on Semillon, with the remaining 65% made up of Roussanne, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay and Clairette Blanche, this seven vineyard cuvée uses grapes from five different regions. Pithy, tangy and very lightly wooded, it has wet stone, quince and green apple flavours and a twist of orange zest. 2024-28
