2013 Barolo Colonnello, Aldo Conterno, Piedmont

2013 Barolo Colonnello, Aldo Conterno, Piedmont

This Barolo is nothing but sexy: it’s at once powerful and intense, joyful and long. There’s a floral element to its nose, with crunchy fruit. A profound wine with amazing elegance and balance.

Poderi Aldo Conterno

The history of this winemaking family dates to at least 1770. Brothers Aldo and Giovanni Conterno continued to work the family land until 1969, when they agreed to split their holdings. Aldo took on their vines in the Bussia area, and with it, the freedom to produce wines in his own style. His three grown sons Stefano, Franco and Giacomo carry on the tradition. Their wines, where selection begins in the vineyard and vines reach over seventy years of age, offer astonishing complexity.
