Deep in hue, the aromas here suggest damson and black cherry, with notes of garrigue. On the palate, the wine reveals a lovely character of sweet black fruit and a touch of black olive tapenade. There is ample intensity here, as well as fine proportions, with a freshening note of acidity. The finish reveals a lively spice, with lightly gripping tannins well-veiled throughout. A very fine Beaucastel with the Mourvèdre assuming centre stage. Long and persistent, it will be interesting to revisit when the final blend is made to see if the Grenache component asserts itself – nonetheless this is an impressive mid-term Beaucastel.
