And this is clear at one of the appellation’s most consistent performers, Domaine de Chevalier is something of a curiosity in Bordeaux. Its name, preceded by Domaine not Château, gives a hint to its more Burgundian style: this is claret in its most elegant, finessed form.

The chocolate, walnut, dark-fruit and stone character is attractive. It’s full-bodied and very tight and linear with chewy yet polished tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Lots of intensity and complexity here, as always.
