2019 Romelio, RETA, Maule Valley

2019 Romelio, RETA, Maule Valley

The 2019 Romelio comes from an old vineyard in Maule planted mostly with Malbec and some 10% to 20% many other red varieties, all fermented together with 40% whole bunch. The vineyard was planted in 1945 and the soil is decomposed granite. Marcelo previously used this vineyard, which was owned by a man called Romelio, when he worked at De Martino. The wine is incredibly aromatic, with loads of spicy character and violet notes, there's some mature black fruit and some juicier notes too. there's notable freshness and an open feel, likely thanks to long maturation in old French oak. Less than 5000 bottles are made.
