2011 Nicolás Catena Zapata, Mendoza

This blend of predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon and around a quarter Malbec has elegant black fruit with notes of cigar box, cedar, savoury spice and balsamic. Whilst there is undoubtedly oak influence, it’s used so delicately and with the support of beautifully concentrated fruit that there is no sense of it being over the top. This is a wonderfully balanced, complex wine that has you reaching for another glass.
