From a 57-year old vineyard on the Paardeberg, in the heart of the Swartland. This is so savoury and subtle, with some almost negroni-like character: orange rind, burnt sugar, and some rooibos notes. Complex and very impressive.
John Seccombe makes this superb Paardeberg Semillon with grapes from an isolated 1963 block, co-fermenting it with 7% interplanted Semillon Gris. Creamy, textured and savoury, with subtle oak from 30% new Austrian 500-litre barrels, lots of granitic intensity, a herbal undertone and effortless concentration. Classy stuff. 2024-29
