2020 Red, Andre van Rensburg

2020 Red, Andre van Rensburg

From grapes from the Vergelegen estate, this is an impressive Bordeaux blend. Notes of graphite and a core of dark fruit, with lots of spice and a hint of smokiness. Already approachable and delicious, this will surely age well, too.

Tasting notes

A step up on the 2020 red blend, this more precise, well-structured bottling has ditched the Malbec to end up as a cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon with 25% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Franc. Matured in 50% new wood - "I can't afford more", jokes André van Rensburg - this has notes of graphite, blackcurrant leaf and blueberry, plenty of leafy perfume and stylish, granular tannins. Very promising. 2024-30
