Just 2,500 bottles made from Semillon gris, with some skin contact. Lovely nose, so floral and pure, with clementines and spice. Lovely vibrancy, with notes of tea and spearmint. So complex and long, so much salinity on the finish, and just a hint of ginger. Wonderful.
Tin Soldier comes from the Schreiber family's vineyard on the Paardeberg and is entirely made with rare Semillon Gris. Just over two-thirds of the wine spends ten days on skins, producing a white with a bronze pink colour that's complex, challenging and a little tannic with pastry, quince and orange marmalade notes and tangy minerality.
Paper Kite hails from a 1963 vineyard on the Paardeberg and is an unequal marriage of Semillon and 6% Semillon Gris. There's no skin contact here, but John Seccombe says he was "looking for a bit of austerity" in the wine. Stony, leesy and focused, it has subtle struck match reduction, lanolin and beeswax characters and some granitic grip.
