2017 Semillon, Boekenhoutskloof, Franschhoek Valley, South Africa

2017 Semillon, Boekenhoutskloof, Franschhoek Valley, South Africa

Really pretty nose, lovely floral character. A touch of Muscat d’Alexandria (2-3%) with both grapes planted in 1902. There are other blocks of Semillon from 1942, 1956. Beautiful creaminess on the nose. Weight, energy, texture and tension, such fine, delicate acidity. Amazing purity. Buy this.

Tasting notes

Three different Franschhoek vineyards, planted in 1902, 1936 and 1942, make up the blend of this impressive, ageworthy Semillon, fermented in 80% new wood and blended with 3% Muscat d'Alexandrie. Waxy, broad and textured at first on the palate, with prominent wood spice, it tightens on the finish, coming over all crisp and grapefruity.
