From a 1977 Durbanville vineyard planted on shale, this is citrus and lifted, with notes of herbs and a hint of straw. Brilliantly balanced: complex and powerful.
The 2017 Blouklip Steen Chenin Blanc (the name translates as “blue rock,” a reference to the blue-tinged decomposed shale soils) comes from bush vines planted in 1977 in the Durbanville area. It offers a well-defined bouquet of orange pith, honeysuckle and light jasmine scents. The palate is very well balanced, crisply acidic and nicely poised, revealing a fine seam of mineralité that comes through on the finish. Nice and taut, this is a Chenin Blanc that should repay bottle age.
