2021 The Eyrie Pinot Noir, The Eyrie Vineyards, Willamette Valley, Oregon

New release

This is the original vineyard of the estate some vines dating back to 1965 - it is truly the home of Oregon Pinot Noir. The hills are exposed south and roll from east to west. This is a really expressive wine from the Eyrie range with vivid aromas of wild strawberry, aniseed, and fresh herbs. There is a silkiness to the texture of the tannins and a bright seam of freshness running through the wine. It is both light-footed yet with a seriousness and intensity that speaks of the old vines here.

This wine is now sold out. Please get in touch with your advisor or one of our team on [email protected] or 01473 313 300 for more information or guidance on an alternative.

The Eyrie Vineyards

The story of Pinot pioneers, Eyrie Vineyards, is a truly inspiring one. In 1965, at the tender age of 24, David Lett headed for Oregon. He left California with little more than 3000 grape cuttings and a firm conviction that Oregon’s Willamette Valley would be the best home for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay outside of Burgundy.

In planting their Dundee Hills estate, David and his wife Diana identified the right climatic zone for Pinot Noir, and also selected its most iconic soil: jory, the basalt-based volcanic soil.

This was a true eureka moment in the beginning of the story of quality, cool-climate varieties in the Willamette Valley.
