The historic and rightly celebrated Sanford and Benedict vineyard sits in a recently created subzone of the Ynez Valley, called the Santa Rita Hills. The success of the vineyard itself marked the creation of the appellation – an area rich in loam and shale capable of producing a complexity in wines rarely found outside of Burgundy. The cooling Pacific influence makes for a classically focussed and mineral style of Chardonnay; some exotic spice and nuts with balanced apple fruit, hints of toast and a savoury, saline freshness.
