Ray's Road is Kumeu River's relatively new property in Hawke's Bay, where the focus is increasingly on the excellent Pinot Noir they can produce there. The key difference here is the limestone soils, which give a more austere profile compared to the Chardonnays from Kumeu itself. There's lots of tension, and fresh citrus with floral notes. As they've replanted, the recent vintages from here have a bit more breadth on the palate, with more pineapple and peach fruit creating a bit more flesh around the lean, flinty core. Zesty and crisp on the finish with chalky notes.
