2021 Village Chardonnay, Kumeu River, Kumeu

Easily one of the best value Chardonnays of the world. 40% of the wine is barrel fermented in new French oak giving it breadth and richness. The oak flavours however are restrained and in the background while fresh, ripe stone fruit and bright citrus lead on the palate. There's a flinty, mineral edge on the finish, coming from a larger proportion of Ray's Road fruit than usual this year with its limestone soils.
