2022 Cuvée Juveniles, Torbreck, Barossa Valley

2022 Cuvée Juveniles, Torbreck, Barossa Valley

Torbreck''s hommage to the quintessential Cotes-du-Rhone, the Cuvee Juveniles was first made to sell exclusively to the cult Parisian wine bar of the same name. In 2022 there is no Shiraz at all in the blend, instead old vine Grenache and Mourvedre are joined by Counoise and Carignan. The result is a refreshing, moreish wine with red berry and bramble fruit. There's still some warmth and power here, but it's an approachable, appetising, easy-going red, that represents a real bargain in the Torbreck portfolio.

Tasting notes

Grenache (45%), Mataro (36%), Carignan (17%) and the balance Counoise, the 2022 Cuvee Juveniles is made utilizing a number of different fermentation and maturation vessels in order to allow the fruit to speak clearly, without the encumbrance of obvious oak characters. On the nose, there is brooding black plum, blueberry, blackberry, cherry, licorice, cassis and bramble. This is fresh and precise, a really beautiful wine. The spool of flavor through the finish draws out to a long close. This is supple and good, with graphite.

"The 2022 vintage has yet to hit the market, but it holds hands with its delicious 2021 predecessor while further emphasising the Counoise and Carignan in its recipe. With increased perfume, finer detail, decreased ripeness, and more bounce, this is as ‘smashable’ as baby-fine-wine gets and marks 2022 as the definitive, modern Juves for cool, modern palates."
