The By Farr Chardonnay is sourced from the same vineyard as the Sangreal Pinot Noir, planted in 1994, planted 120 meters above sea level with red soils. They have some Burgundy clones and some Penfolds clones here. The wine is made by hand-picking a whole bunch pressing into French oak, 30% new. There is a little lees stirring but the wine is not overly buttery or rich, instead it offers power and length with a savoury, mineral drive as well as peachy fruit and well integrated soft spices. A must-buy for Chardonnay fans.
