Koomilya is Steve Pannell's passion project, and he's making some of the finest wines we've ever seen from McLaren Vale. The 2019 Koomilya GT Shiraz is from a vineyard site Steve has worked with for years with other projects, with silty loam soils. There's power here and grainy, mouth-coating tannins. He makes all the wines in this range in the same way, to showcase the terroir differences. There's 20% whole bunch and all fruit is handpicked, with minimul sulphur use throughout. There's lots of black fruit and spicy notes here, with a lot of structure that stands it in great stead to age in bottle.
