Incredibly tightly wound, and not giving much away, this feels like a baby Grand Cru. There’s elegance and minerality here, with a lemon oil and floral character. There’s such a lovely texture, with real power. They use 70% new oak here - you wouldn’t know, such is the wine’s density. Before 1971 there was no wine labelled as Chardonnay in Australia. This shows how far the country, and Penfolds, have come.
