2009 Estate Pinot Noir, Ten Minutes by Tractor, Mornington Peninsula
Earlier this year, we offered the 2009 Chardonnays from this acclaimed Australian producer, Ten Minutes by Tractor. They sold out in just one afternoon, but we have been fortunate enough to acquire their 2009 Estate Pinot Noir to offer as an exclusive for Fine Wine Plan members. Situated in Main Ridge at one of the highest and coolest points of the Mornington Peninsula, their name is based on the fact that their single vineyard sites are all just ten minutes’ drive apart, but each is separated by differences in aspect and altitude, slope and soil, and by the winds which flow through the valleys running south into the Bass Strait. As a result, the wines are elegant, focussed, characterful and pure – specific to the Mornington Peninsula, but moreover, to Main Ridge and to their unique and individual sites.
The Estate Pinot Noir is sourced exclusively from the three original 'home' vineyards – Judd, McCutcheon and Wallis – on the estate. Exceptionally conscientious winemaking and ageing in French oak barriques has resulted in a wine that is truly a beautiful expression of very fine Pinot Noir. The nose is redolent with aromas of raspberry, plum and cherry, subtle spice and rhubarb, following through to the palate which has attractive oak and berry integration. Soft, supple and finely textured with comforting velvet-tannins and fresh, bright acidity, this is a wonderful wine which will continue to please over the next five years.
