N/V Old Vine Muscadelle, Chambers Rosewood Vineyard, Victoria (fortified)
Tawny amber with a slightly yellow rim, the old vine version reveals an extra dimension. The nose has great depth, notes of Muscavado sugar and a raisiny sweetness overlaying dried orange peel and rich toffee. The broad, weighty palate impresses with juicy sultana and creamy pear softness and a character akin to toffee crunch. Although very sweet indeed, the acidity balances beautifully, preventing any cloying flavours spoiling the finish. Very fine indeed.
