1998 Barolo Santo Stefano di Perno, Giovanni Manzone, Piedmont

The estate doesn't make Santo Stefano di Perno any more, so this is a rare treat. Elegant and perfumed with rose hip and a hint of green tea, there's wonderful intensity to the palate, and a saline, mineral finish that lasts for minutes. Barolo at the peak of its power is something not to be missed, and this ticks every box.

Giovanni Manzone

A family run estate based in the little village of Monforte, Manzone represent the charm and generosity of the Barolo region. Cheerful and hardworking winemaker Mauro Manzone joined the family estate in 2005, with sister Mirella following in 2012. They work alongside father Giovanni to make Barolos that are approachable with pure fruit, but remain recognisably true to their roots. They’re fantastic for anyone first approaching the wines of Barolo.
