2019 Uvaggio, Coste della Sesia Rosso, Proprietà Sperino

Based in the small town of Lessona, Alto Piemonte, this estate with less than 10 hectares is run by the truly talented Luca De Marchi, son of Paolo De Marchi of Isole e Olena fame. A blend of Nebbiolo, Vespolina and Croatina, the grapes are sourced from 3 small vineyard parcels in Lessona (Ormeggio, Castagnola and Belvedere). 2019 was a tricky vintage with 2 hail storms to contend with, causing low yields and lots of sorting in the vineyards and the winery, however Paolo is very happy with the resulting wine. Packed with bright red berry fruit aromas and wild flowers this wines is a true delight and showcases the vibrancy and purity of Nebbiolo in the Alto Piemonte region. The acidity is crisp and energetic and the tannins provide focus to a wine that seems to display to great mineral character from the volcanic soils with aplomb.
