A blend of Sangiovese with Canaiolo, this is very lifted with notes of violets and pure cherry, and just a hint of citrus lift. There’s crunchy berries on the palate, and plenty of tannins. Give this a couple of years and it’s sure to impress.

Boscarelli is a tiny estate, which gives the family total control over every part, and means they’ve been able to create wines of real individual character. Owner Luca works alongside celebrated winemaking consultant Maurizio Castelli, and his brother Nicolo is responsible for the vineyards. Nicolo, who lives on site, is hugely charismatic, and every time we meet him his facial hair has changed. What remains constant however is the quality of the wines from one of Montepulciano’s greatest names.
