2015 Roero, Bric Valdiana, Giovanni Almondo

This Bric Valdiana deserves to put Roero on the map. There's a haunting perfume of cherry, rose and jasmine, with impressive depth on the palate. Fine-grained tannins and precise, linear acidity mark its ageworthiness.

Giovanni Almondo

This Roero estate is quickly making headlines as a source of not only great value Nebbiolo, just across the Tanaro river from Barbaresco, but also stunning Arneis, one of the great local white grapes of Piedmont. Run by brothers Stefano and Federico with their father, Domenico, they've 600 years of family history here, though they only started to make wine since removing fruit trees to make way for vines in 1980. It's an estate to watch closely.
