2014 Barolo Le Albe, G. D. Vajra, Piedmont

Le Albe is a blend of a few different sites, and is seen by the Vajra family as something of an introduction to their wines. But this is a very serious introduction, with complexity of flavour profile and structure. Already delicious, this will be even better in a few years time.

G.D. Vajra

Surprisingly, given their access to great terroir, this estate was only founded in 1972 by Patriarch Aldo. Named after his father Giuseppe Domenico who planted most of the family’s vines, the property sits at one of the highest points in Piedmont, so the grapes ripen later than anywhere else in the region. When these slow-ripening grapes are pressed, it gives their wines a unique, fresh and elegant style. They’re Barolos for Burgundy lovers.
