2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva, Gianni Brunelli

“The estate's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva brings with it another level of energy, tension and structure relative to the straight Brunello. Here the aromatics are beautifully delineated and nuanced, while the fruit is very nicely layered throughout. Rose petals, crushed rocks, mint and spices wrap around a striking finish laced with balsamic overtones. The 2010 Riserva is shaping up to be another winner from Gianni Brunelli. In this vintage, the Riserva is made almost exclusively from Vigna dell' Olmo, a south to southwest-facing parcel in the Podernovone estate.”

2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva, Gianni Brunelli
Gianni Brunelli

Gianni Brunelli and wife Laura had been running a successful restaurant in Siena for 10 years. But in 1987 Gianni felt the call of his hometown, Montalcino, and took over the Le Chiuse di Sotto estate from his father. He fast gained a reputation for producing some of the town’s most impressive Brunellos di Montalcino. Sadly, Gianni passed away unexpectedly in 2008. Laura now carries the family torch, and has brought her own lovely style to the wines.
