2009 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Nocio dei Boscarelli, Tuscany

2009 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Nocio dei Boscarelli, Tuscany

Sourced from a 3 hectare parcel of the estate’s best Sangiovese vines and made only in better vintages, agronomist Nicolo di Ferrari explained that due to the large degree of variation in soil types, a process of micro-parcel vinification is practised to allow full expression of the vineyard. A nose loaded with pure red cherries, tobacco and liquorice, there is plenty of drive and energy on a deliciously rich and complex palate of forest fruits and exotic spice.

Boscarelli is a tiny estate, which gives the family total control over every part, and means they’ve been able to create wines of real individual character. Owner Luca works alongside celebrated winemaking consultant Maurizio Castelli, and his brother Nicolo is responsible for the vineyards. Nicolo, who lives on site, is hugely charismatic, and every time we meet him his facial hair has changed. What remains constant however is the quality of the wines from one of Montepulciano’s greatest names.
