With only 15,000 bottles produced, this is an incredibly elegant demonstration of Nebbiolo. With fresh fruit aromas and flavours, supported by a delightful minerality, some smoke, and ripe, fine tannins, this wine is so supremely well balanced that it almost appears effortless.
The 2008 Barolo La Pira wafts from the glass with sweet red cherries, plums, tobacco, cinnamon and leather. This is an unusually supple, juicy Roagna Barolo with tons of near and medium-term appeal. Today the fruit is front and centre, while the tannins are beautifully integrated, especially for a young Barolo. A kick of acidity lingers on the finish, but this is still a pretty open and approachable wine.
