2003 Il Carbonaione, Podere Poggio Scalette, Tuscany

The combination of a very hot summer, wine consultant Vittiorio Fiore and old vines produced a very good if atypical Il Carbonaione in 2003. The colour as always is deep and the bouquet offers red currant and cherry underpinned with a touch of oak. The palate is both opulent and seductive. There is almost a certain reserve about the palate which is testament to the winemaker. Well balanced with a touch of acidity and a delicious mid palate dominated again by cherry fruit.
