2001 Nardo, Montepeloso, Tuscany
Very deep, almost opaque colour. There is a tremendous burst of fruit on the nose with both spice and herb notes. The wine was aged for almost 18 months in new oak barriques, and although the tell-tale vanillin is evident, it is veiled by the force of berry and morello cherry fruit, mingling with dark chocolate and coffee. Gloriously mouthfilling, this has enormous volume. A rich middle palate and a very long silky finish are testament to low yields and very high quality wine making. A magnificent wine from a very fine year and arguably the finest Sangiovese from the region.
