The 2011 Rioja Alta 904 takes a little coaxing from the glass. Yet with air come notes of Victoria plum and wild cherries, laced with violet and plenty of spice. The palate is medium bodied, with detailed definition of flavours, and a mineral, savoury finish that last for an age. A brilliant, benchmark Rioja, that’s a lesson in balance.
