2006 La Creu Alta, Bodegas Mas Alta, Priorat
A supreme expression of Priorat, this is a blend of 60% Carinyena, including an incredible portion of 100 year old vine fruit, together with old vine Garnacha.
Deep, dark, purple red colour. The nose is closed but there is clearly a powerful core of dark chocolate and black forest gateau flavours with a touch of liquorice and subtle balsamic notes. Pure with black cherry and black currant flavours combining with creamy vanilla. Beautifully juicy yet intense palate. The tannins are again incredibly fine and of a melting nature. This is very young, with oak and dark, brooding fruit dominating the minerality which clearly lies beneath. Needs three or four years before it will begin to show its true class. Very high quality.
