Winemaker Javier Ausás cites the Único 2004 as the natural successor to the 1970, itself one of the most praised and sought after vintages in the estate’s history. We were lucky enough to taste the 1970 alongside, for which I can’t find the words. Although young, the 2004 is incredibly expressive; pure fruit abound with a seductive, honey-nut sweetness and captivating depth. Astonishing length and sublime balance, this kind of winemaking would not be possible were it not for 780m altitude at which the estate sits.
