From R Lopez de Heredia, makers of Viña Tondonia and one of the finest, and most traditional, producers in the region, the Gravonia is what white Rioja should be all about. A wonderful golden colour, the nose is full of fantastic orange zest touched with hints of honey. The palate has a delightful waxy texture and character, retaining a remarkable fruitiness and freshness considering its age. I cannot stress enough how fascinatingly complex this wine is, and the perfect foil for so many foods, from the simplest omelette to your Christmas turkey. At the price, a steal!
