The 2015 Ried Grub 1ÖTW is rich and almost caramelly on the nose where perfectly ripe Grüner Veltliner aromas are displayed in a stunningly elegant and well balanced way. Full-bodied, this is a very elegant, fresh, lingering, piquant, stimulating and salty Grub that comes along with a stunning finesse, elegance and even tension thanks to fine tannins. A great Kamptal Grüner Veltliner from the Kammerner Grub indeed.
Hints of struck flint and crushed stone mingle with muskmelon, pear and papaya on the nose. The silken palate perpetuates tropical fruitiness but introduces a cooling infusion of green herbs and a savory undertone of blond tobacco. Pepper and cress offer welcome, invigorating counterpoint on a lusciously lingering finish, albeit one lacking the vibrancy or mineral complexity of the corresponding Renner. (I last tasted this shortly ahead of its midsummer bottling.
