2018 Hundsrück Spätburgunder Grosses Gewächs, Fürst, Franconia

2018 Hundsrück Spätburgunder Grosses Gewächs, Fürst, Franconia

Currently a real baby, the 2018 Hundsruck is surely one of the greatest Pinot Noirs Sebastian's ever produced: and by extension one of the finest produced in Germany. It's effortlessly powerful and concentrated, with a coolness and poise yet intensity that blows you away. The finish is mineral and detailed, and lasts for minutes. This is an astonishingly good Pinot Noir: a match for the greatest Grands Crus of Burgundy.

Tasting notes

The 2018 Hundsrück Spätburgunder GG is pure, fresh, fine and even cool on the deep and elegant, perfectly ripe and balanced nose that reveals ripe, tightly woven and spiced fruit aromas. Intense, ripe and generous on the full-bodied and concentrated yet fine, fresh and pure palate, this is a tight and energetic, vibrantly fresh and mineral Pinot with fine tannins but enormous grip and tension and lingering salinity. Absolutely fabulous and sustainable. Possibly the greatest Hundsrück I have had so far. Tasted as a sample in January and April 2020.
