The Erdener Prälat (Bishop of Erden) vineyard is, perhaps, the Mosel’s answer to Burgundy’s Le Montrachet vineyard: it’s a historic Grand Cru known for being the source of the region’s finest white wines. But at just 1.6 hectares, Erdener Prälat is a fifth of Le Montrachet’s size. The red slate soil adds an iodine rich profile to the wines in this unique site. The backbone of this wine is flinty and saline and very tightly wound, with some fleshy stone fruit and pink grapefruit notes and white pepper adding layers of complexity. There is a powerful drive to the acidity and wonderful phenolic grip and length on the finish.
