2014 Saphir, Saumur Brut, Bouvet Ladubay

Saphir is the calling card of the estate - a vintage wine that shows the very best of Loire sparkling wine. The 2014 is one of the best ever, with a precise, clean nose of pears, apples and citrus notes. There’s a concentration and structure to the palate, with a mineral texture and complexity, all in balance. There’s a hint of salinity on the very long finish of this refreshing wine.

Bouvet Ladubay

Initially bought in 1932, outside investment was sought from Taittinger in 1971, and whilst their involvement ended in 2005 it was only in 2015 that the family was able to take back full control. The Saphir came about in 1971 when Patrice Monmousseau was searching for a precious name for his new vintage wine. On a post proposal waterskiing trip with his fiancée, the newly acquired sapphire ring was lost to the river Loire, giving rise to the legend of Saphir.
