Mid-golden in appearance, almost the colour of straw. The palate is clearly youthful as one would expect of a 1996 at this stage. In both vintages I have found chalky mineral flavours that are almost piercing in their clarity. There is astonishing intensity of ripe fruit here and vivacity too. The telltale ripe acidity of 1996 is very evident. Rich but remarkably well poised, this is so pure and exhibits terrific balance and almost searing length. A truly exceptional Blanc de Noirs, surely an experience worth revisiting in five to ten years time?
