N/V PN AYC 18, Bollinger

This is the fourth iteration of Bollinger's 100% Pinot Noir cuvée, and this time the heart of it comes from the house's and the grape variety's spiritual home of Aÿ (making up almost half the blend). The rest is made up fruit from Verzenay, Tauxières and Avenay-Val-d’Or. 2018 is the first of the magnificent triplet of vintages the Champenois have been getting very excited about. It was sunny and warm, and the grapes grew in abundance. The resulting wines are juicy and vivacious. The vintage makes up half the blend, with the balance from reserve wines, giving the fruity base wine a savoury, structured length. It's a masterclass in Pinot Noir from the house whose fame is so intrinsically linked with it. This is Bollinger doing what Bollinger does best.
